Senior Location Guide
From the quiet woods of the northwest metro to the brick and skyline of downtown Minneapolis, the Twin Cities are full of incredible spots for senior pictures. Here is a local photographer's guide to the best of them, grouped by vibe, with honest notes on light, parking, and permits.
Book Your SessionChoosing where to shoot is half the fun of senior pictures, and the Twin Cities give you an incredible range, from quiet northwest-metro nature to the brick and skyline of downtown Minneapolis, all within a short drive. Below are some of my favorite senior photo locations, grouped by vibe. Most sessions include one or two nearby spots so your gallery has real variety, and we plan them together around lighting, parking, and how much walking you want to do.
One note before you fall in love with a spot: some regional parks and gardens require a photography permit, and a few get busy on summer evenings. I handle that planning so your session runs smooth.
Bunker Hills Regional Park (Coon Rapids / Andover) is my go-to in the NW metro. Open meadows, wooded trails, and a lakeside backdrop all sit within a short walk of the parking lot, so we get several completely different looks in one relaxed session. It is the easiest win for seniors out of Coon Rapids, Andover, Blaine, and Anoka.
Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park hugs the Mississippi with river views, the dam structure, and wooded paths, a great mix of nature with a touch of industrial edge without leaving the area.
Historic Downtown Anoka brings brick storefronts, old-town charm, and riverfront character for seniors who want an urban-but-cozy feel close to home.
Stone Arch Bridge & Mill City Ruins is the most iconic city backdrop in the Twin Cities: the historic bridge, exposed brick, the old mill ruins, and skyline views all in one walkable stretch. Perfect for a bold, editorial senior look.
Northeast Minneapolis murals deliver color and personality, block after block of street art for seniors who want something vibrant and a little edgy.
Boom Island Park balances all that brick with nature: a riverfront bridge, green space, and skyline views, a favorite for a softer urban feel.
Lyndale Park Rose Garden & Lake Harriet pairs flower-filled gardens with classic Minneapolis lake views and the Bandshell, lush and timeless, especially in summer. (Paid parking, and it can get busy during Bandshell events.)
Como Park Conservatory (St Paul) is the go-to for greenery and a clean, bright look, glass-house gardens and seasonal flowers that photograph beautifully year-round, with a lakeside pavilion minutes away.
Downtown Stillwater trades the city for a historic river town: colorful storefronts, the lift bridge, and the St Croix riverfront. Arrive early on weekends, parking fills up fast.
Lebanon Hills Regional Park (Eagan) is a sprawling park with lakes, beaches, docks, and trails for seniors who want a true nature session. (Note: Dakota County requires a photo permit here, which I take care of.)
You do not have to figure any of this out alone. During your pre-session consultation we match locations to your personality and outfits, whether that is urban, nature, colorful, or moody, and plan around the best light of the day. Want your session somewhere meaningful, like your own neighborhood or the family lake cabin? Let's do it. Most sessions fit one or two spots comfortably.
All packages include drone aerial portraits, professional off-camera lighting, and a private online gallery with full print rights.
